A Message From Our President

Nick Blount, Florida Power & Light

This past summer, my wife and I were vacationing in the beautiful state of Maine. As we traveled through the quaint town of Damariscatta (try saying that fast three times), something caught my eye. There along the main street was a Rexall Drugs with its neon orange and blue sign overhanging the sidewalk. Inside was an authentic 1948 soda fountain. My mind suddenly went back to the 60’s where I grew up in West Tennessee. We had a Rexall Drugs too, and it was there where on Saturday mornings you could find our star running back “Redbone” standing under that neon sign, where the locals would pour on the accolades for his heroics the night before. That’s what I call a “Rexall Moment”.

It is time Palm City Chamber members have a “Rexall Moment”. We have had a good Friday night and we should also be very proud of our performance. As we move forward throughout 2010, for us to remain strong, we need to have a game plan that places emphasis on the basics. Not only should we support our members through the use of their services and products, we also need to refer them to others every chance we get. We also need to encourage them and make them know how proud we are that they are members of our Chamber.

Speaking of proud, I am very proud and honored that our membership, through its directors, is allowing me to lead its organization as we optimistically rise from a serious economic period. I pledge to learn as much as I possibly can about our members. I want to hear from you. What do you like? What needs to change? How can we ensure you are getting what you pay for? Those who have served before me have set the wheels in motion through programs and events such as Adopt-a-Class and the highly successful inaugural Fall Fest. In keeping with my “getting back to basics” philosophy, we will strive to provide new opportunities for networking and showcasing your business. Again, let’s hear your ideas.

In addition to supporting and promoting our core business, we must continue to support community initiatives that will sow the seeds for our businesses and the community at large to sustain and prosper. We will keep you informed of the issues so you can make intelligent decisions as both businesses and citizens. When the end of 2010 rolls around, I foresee us all crowding under that neon sign basking in our “Rexall Moment” – proud of who we are and what we stand for – PALM CITY CHAMBER PROUD!

Best wishes in 2010.

Sincerely,
Nick Blount, President
