Palm City is an unincorporated town located in Martin County, governed by Martin County Commissioners. Martin County is divided into five (5) districts. Palm City is represented by Ed Ciampi as part of District 5. Martin County is a non-chartered county and its form of government is prescribed by the Florida Constitution and Florida Statutes, as follows:
Board of County Commissioners The Board of County Commissioners is the legislative body of the County and has charge of all county executive and administrative functions, except those assigned by the Constitution to independent county officers or to the independent school district. The board also has some quasi-judicial functions. Some of functions exercised by the board are county-wide, while others are applicable only in the unincorporated areas of the county, where the board has many of the functions of a municipality. The county commissioners are elected by county-wide vote, but each one represents a specific district. The board appoints the county administrator who is responsible to it for the day-to-day operations of the county government. The current county commissioners by district number are: 1. Doug Smith 2. Stacey Hetherington 3. Harold Jenkins 4. Sarah Heard 5. Edward Ciampi To contact County Offices dial 772.288.5420 or 772.220.7129
Like the other unincorporated communities, Palm City has a distinct identity. It is self-sufficient with churches, schools, parks and recreation areas, banks, shopping centers, retail outlets, a medical facility, a fire station, services and small businesses providing local employment.
For people who enjoy country club living, Palm City has the largest number of prestigious country club communities in the county. There are more waterfront homes than one could imagine, equestrian and airpark communities and, of course, traditional home communities.
Law Enforcement protection is provided by the Eastern County Operations Division of the Martin County Sheriff’s Office. The Sheriff’s Office has approximately 250 sworn officers and provides coverage for most of the county. Fire and EMS services are provided by Station 21 located on Mapp Road, of the Martin County Fire Rescue.
